Former Rochdale Midfielder Joe Thompson Dies at 36 After Third Battle With Cancer

 Playing midfielder Joe Thompson made his football career at Rochdale and Manchester United's academy until his passing from cancer at age 36 during his third cancer fight. ​Thompson spent more than 200 training matches at Rochdale following his 2013 discovery of nodular sclerosis Hodgkin lymphoma while representing Tranmere Rovers. The diagnosis resulted in his medical recovery so he could return to professional football but he received another cancer diagnosis while back with Rochdale in 2016. Doctors declared his cancer in remission for the second time during 2017. ​
