The dangerous storm system has departed from the United States after causing broad-scale destruction across multiple states. The combination of tornadoes and wildfires along with experimental dust storms created at least 39 deaths while destroying many areas.
Tornadoes Ravage the Midwest and South
The powerful storm system activated tornadoes that hit different areas within Midwest territory and the Southern region. The numerous tornadoes that ripped through Missouri caused twelve people to lose their lives. Tornadoes brought about six death tolls and resulted in displaced populations exceeding 200 people throughout the state of Mississippi. The severe weather in Alabama together with Arkansas caused major harm to property and took many lives.
Wildfires Devastate Oklahoma and Texas
Oklahoma had to deal with damage from wind-powered wildfires that ruined 300 properties along with two confirmed deaths. The state experienced more than 130 fires during this period when local wind speeds exceeded 70 mph while low humidity conditions made it difficult to contain these fires. Wildfires engulfed many parts of Texas in the Frederickburg area where blazes consumed an area of approximately 14 square miles.
Dust Storms Cause Fatal Accidents
Deadly car crashes occurred in Texas and Kansas because of storm-generated dust storms. The extreme dust storm in Kansas triggered a 71 vehicle pileup accident which killed eight people and hurt more than 30 people along I-70 between Colby and Goodland. The identical conditions in Texas triggered new accidents which caused additional death casualties.
Ongoing Recovery Efforts
Response teams including emergency personnel and volunteers keep dedicated efforts to evaluate the wreckage while helping the communities affected by the disaster. The White House has established surveillance of these conditions as President Donald Trump announced his team's willingness to provide support for state and local recovery operations.
All residents throughout the affected states stay vigilant as the storm system passes toward the northeast direction. The extent of destruction revealed during this extreme weather incident showcases why communities need to prepare themselves for natural disasters.
